Right.....im not a speech maker so dont expect anything long...
since this is such an old game, i wont write a full review, but more of a history
originally planned as a sequel to resident evil 2, the capcom team traveled to spain to visit old medievil castles to do research into old spanish architecture. With months of research in their banks, they returned to their offices to start work on 'resident evil'.
After initial designs and game formatting, some of the capcom staff started to doubt its performance as a resident evil game, and after refinement of the platform, almost all the staff doubted it.
After another month or so of production, they decided to scrap the whole thing. There was much debate on what to do with their data. Some thought to put it in another department for another 'in production' game, however, some staff suggested to recycle their data. This was agreed on, and in a couple of weeks, Devil May Cry was in production.
All their research went into what was called 'Mallet Island', the setting for DMC1. Initial previews from magazines said it would 'fall under its own weight', but sold hugely in its first week on sale. Dante (the main charcter) became an idol with toatally original character concepts. It received various rewards, including some for excellent story and action, and 'TOTALLY ORIGINAL' awards.
However, it didnt fall under any current genres, so it was given its own genre, 'extreme action'. The only other games to be given this genre are games like god of war, although this is sometimes shown as 'hack n slash action'.
It sold so well, that a sequel was started almost instantly, but with less favourable results.....
DMC2 review soon.....
